A dystopian literary fiction story about power, control, and one man’s search for his missing brother.
Washington, District of Columbia (DC), United States, 4th May 2026 – Author J. A. Solomon is proud to announce the release of Solace, a powerful new dystopian literary fiction novel now available on Amazon. This gripping story follows one man’s journey into a strange and controlled society built on a floating island in the Pacific Ocean. What begins as a search for a missing brother soon turns into a fight to understand a system that tests the limits of the human mind.
Blending suspense, mystery, and deep questions about human behavior, Solace offers a fresh take on dystopian literary fiction. The novel invites readers to step into a world that appears calm and organized on the surface, yet hides something far more unsettling underneath.

A Journey to a Mysterious Floating Island
In Solace, readers follow Gabriel Washington, a man searching for his brother Samuel. Samuel disappeared after taking a job on Solace, a massive artificial island floating in the Pacific Ocean. Built many years ago to survive the rising seas, Solace was first meant to connect nations and serve as a global trade center.
Over time, however, the island changed.
Now Solace is known as a place where people travel for holidays, drawn by its clean streets and perfect design. The island itself is a huge circle divided into four sections. Long canals stretch across the island from north to south and east to west. The structure is filled with flexible joints that allow it to move with the waves of the ocean.
But behind this peaceful image lies a system of control.
As Gabriel arrives on the island to find Samuel, he soon learns that Solace is not the paradise it seems to be. Visitors and workers are watched closely. Strange rules guide daily life. At the center of it all stands a mysterious leader known only as Solomon.
To uncover the truth about his brother, Gabriel must take part in a series of disturbing trials. These tests challenge his body, his thoughts, and his sense of right and wrong.
A Different Kind of Dystopian Story
Many books in the dystopian literary fiction genre focus on heroes who try to destroy a broken system. Solace takes a different path.
Gabriel is not trying to start a revolution. Instead, he is trying to understand the world he has stepped into. The island does not look broken. In fact, it appears to work very well. It is clean, efficient, and organized.
That is what makes it frightening.
The trials on Solace are not only physical challenges. They also test deeper parts of the human mind. Participants must face questions about loyalty, desire, addiction, and morality. The system pushes people to reveal who they truly are.
This psychological focus gives Solace a unique voice within dystopian literary fiction. The novel asks readers to think about how systems shape human behavior and what people are willing to accept in exchange for comfort and order.
A World Built for the Future
The setting of Solace adds another powerful layer to the story. The island itself was created about one hundred and fifty years ago during a time when rising sea levels threatened coastal cities around the world. Engineers designed Solace as one of the first floating islands able to survive the changing oceans.
Located in the middle of the Pacific, the island became a meeting point between nations. Its position allowed it to act as a bridge between the Americas and the eastern regions of Asia. Over time it grew into a center of trade and travel.
Today, the island stands as a symbol of human creativity and survival.
Yet within this technological marvel, a different experiment is taking place—one that studies people rather than machines. This mix of advanced design and psychological tension helps Solace stand out in modern dystopian literary fiction.
